Hello and Welcome to my site!
I have been messing around inside computers since 1995, during which time I completed a diploma course in PC repair . Since then I have built, repaired and upgraded many computers as my main hobby. Both of my sons help me with building, repairing and upgrading PCs proving that there are no age barriers when it comes to delving into the IT world. There are many people that still have a fear of the technology when it comes to the thought of opening and working on their computer. Hopefully this site will reduce these fears and help guide you through, step by step in caring , upgrading and building your computer. Although it should be remembered that the information on this site is purely a guide and should never override manufacturers instructions.
Since the creation of this site some years ago there have been many changes in both hardware and software development.. Computers, peripherals and components are much faster and software more powerful. It would be unrealistic to believe that you will build a future proof machine. This is not going to happen as new advances in technology are being made on an almost daily basis, unless of course, money is no object.
Why build my own PC?.
It is becoming more fashionable and easier to build, service, upgrade and repair your own PCs these days as they are becoming more modular. As prices of components fall and the number of computer fairs and online stores rise, it is much more practical and economical to build and maintain your own computer. Even the larger high street stores are becoming more competitive with their prices. You get to choose how it looks, how it works, how you use it and what you want to put with it. You are in control of your own project, and budget, whereas, if you buy a package of say a PC, Printer, Scanner, and £1000 worth of software for £999 then something does not add up. Sometimes the software is outdated, trial's or other software that you would not usually have bought and probably will never use. Does the printer give the quality that you might have bought had it not been part of the bundle, i.e. of photo quality and is the scanner going to give you the quality and resolutions that you will need. This is all food for thought and should be thought over carefully as you want to buy now and not renew tomorrow. PC's cannot be future proofed as the technology is changing daily, but you can do the next best thing and that is buy what you can afford, but if you can spend a little more and don't cut corners, will do the next best thing to future proofing when it comes to choosing hardware. Hopefully you should get several (? many) good years from your computer. There are some unscrupulous dealers out there, not all I might add, who will gladly sell you what you don't need, praying on your ignorance of computer systems to gain a sale . This is where a little research and pre planning helps. Go in knowing what you want and how much you are prepared to spend, this is a good starter. The majority of them are very helpful and you can gain a lot from their experience. Lets face it they want your trade tomorrow as well as today.
